A letter to the little girl with the curly hair:
I want you to know that you are beautiful. Your hair isn’t too frizzy and your skin is fine. You need your glasses to see, and we both know you are too forgetful to wear contacts, wear your glasses, they look nice on you. Smile with your teeth, your little crooked tooth is kinda nice. Don’t be ashamed of the hair on your body, as much as your cousins make fun of you for it, it’s natural, and they’re idiots.
I want you to know that I think you are very bright and an amazing story-teller.
You don’t need that boy to make you feel like you are worth something, you are already worth so much… especially to me.
I’m sorry your dad isn’t here and that your mom is lonely. I’m sorry that you feel like it’s your fault, because it isn’t. Nothing is your fault, you are a child, a little girl, stop trying to get ahead of yourself, you have your entire life to worry and to be an adult. Stop trying to grow up so fast, enjoy the time you have now.
Go and talk to your friends, your real friends, the ones that call you and are there for you when you need them. Be there for them too, tell them you love them. Cherish all the people that truly care about you. Be with those that make you want to be a better person. Go talk to the little girl with the beautiful dark skin and black hair, she loves you too, and she will be such a great influence on you.
You are a light in a darkened world. You have an amazing heart and will accomplish so many different things. You will help many and you will make people happy, that is one of the most important things you can ever do.
And that little baby your brother is gonna have when he’s 18, he will be a savior, the love that you two will have, will be the most pure love to exist in the history of ever. You’re gonna change a lot of diapers and he’s gonna spend a lot more time with you than his own parents, but, that’s ok, it will all be worth it when you see how the love and care that you gave to him, saved him too.
You might make a few mistakes, but, please remember, that this doesn’t make you any less valuable. Just get back up and try again, you aren’t the type to give up, you fight, you get back up when you fall and you try even harder, you become stronger.
Everything is going to be okay, you just keep going, and everything is going to be okay.
-From the girl that is staring back at you in your reflection.
